Les 3 règles d’or pour protéger ses cheveux crépus en hiver

The 3 golden rules for protecting your afro-textured hair in winter

Winter is coming! Between the dry, heated air indoors and the icy gusts outdoors, your hair is going to be put to the test. Rest assured: having hair full of pep even in winter is possible... provided you adapt your hair routine and follow a few golden rules.

1. Hydrate, hydrate, and… hydrate some more!

This is undoubtedly the best advice we can give you to face winter with peace of mind. The hair fiber needs regular hydration to stay healthy. This is even more true for Afro hair, which is naturally drier. In cold weather, you must be extra vigilant: if you don’t provide your hair with enough moisture, it risks drying out even further, generating static electricity, and even breaking!

To avoid disaster, make sure to apply a moisturizing product daily to your strands. If you have high-porosity hair, try the LOC method (Liquid / Oil / Cream) once a week. The oil helps seal in moisture, and the cream closes the cuticle to form a shield on the surface of the hair. We also recommend wearing protective hairstyles, such as twists, box braids, or cornrows.

Our favorite? The hibiscus hair milk, which works wonders on kinky hair in winter—ideal for low-porosity hair. Remember to apply it well every day and distribute it from bottom to top so that your ends, which are more fragile, can benefit from it as much as possible.

2. Focus on deep conditioning

To maintain the beauty of your curls during the cold season, increase the frequency of your deep conditioning treatments to once a week. They allow you to boost hydration and nutrition but, above all, to restore the hair fiber damaged by the harsh weather. If you pamper them regularly with masks adapted to their nature, your hair will be better armed to face the winter.

Take this opportunity to manage their protein intake as well. The balance between hydration and protein plays a crucial role in maintaining your hair: this is because the hair fiber is composed largely of keratin, a very resistant protein that helps your hair deal with external aggressions. If you find your coils are less bouncy and feel limp, it means a protein treatment is necessary!

At Kalia Nature, we can no longer live without the coconut-spirulina hair mask, because it manages both hydration and protein. A little all-in-one genius, with no unnecessary ingredients, which honors coconut and the queen of blue algae: spirulina, which will make all the difference to the health of your curls. Plus, its ultra-creamy, cocooning texture is so comforting that we keep coming back for more...

3. Prevent hair loss

Have you noticed more hair than usual on your brush? Don’t panic: losing your hair is completely normal. To give you an idea, know that 20 to 100 of your hairs (out of about 150,000, after all!) fall out naturally every day. This simply means they have reached the end of their life and it is time for them to make room for new ones.

However, in winter, hair loss tends to increase. Why? Simply because the winter season is a trial for your lovely mane... and your body in general. It’s cold, you’re tired, you’re more prone to deficiencies: these are all internal imbalances that directly affect hair health. Therefore, it’s no surprise that more of them are dying off...

To curb the phenomenon and show off a full head of hair, don’t hesitate to do a vitamin cure. For even more obvious results, you can also stimulate your scalp directly. The murumuru serum is perfect for this: it contains murumuru butter, an Amazonian fruit that is overflowing with vitamins and fatty acids. Take the time to massage (we said massage, not rub!) your roots; this will oxygenate the bulbs and help your hair regenerate faster.

My nappy hair in winter? No problem!

Thanks to these golden rules, you will no longer worry about your Afro hair in winter. Get ready for snowball fights with your kids and magical excursions with your hair blowing in the wind under the snowflakes! We have three final tips: space out your washes, avoid wool or synthetic hats, and make sure your hair is completely dry before stepping outside. And, finally, enjoy this beautiful season!
